Kolagappara wayanad
Kolagapara Wayanad is one of the well known tourist destination in Wayanad. It is a remote village situated around15 km from Kalpetta the capital of wayanad district in Kerala. Its tranquil surroundings will provide a rejuvenating experience to visitors who take refuge here from the hubbub of the city life It is an elephant shaped rock that dominates the landscape whole of Wayanad. This monumental rock has got the height of four hundred feet from the bottom and has an altitude of 3000 feet from the sea level.
This astonishing rock has a flat place where, more than five hundred people can stand at the same time. The sides of the rock resemble an elephant’s back can be deceitful. It is one of the trekker’s paradises in wayanad. Adventurous tourists can try climbing this rock. To get to Kolagapara, travel along NH 212 and get down at Krishnagiri connecting Kalpetta and Sultan Bathery. A 2 Kilometers trek along a rough path will take you to the bottom of this rock. A visit to the top of Kolagapara can help to hang on to an overall picture of the abundant greenery of Wayanad. Yet another mesmerizing view from the top of this rock is the glimmering water level of the Kuripuzha reservoir.
The Kolagapara has cool and pleasant climate which offers the right growing situation for spices such coffee, vanilla, tea, and rubber. This is a favorite destination for travelers who love trekking and mountain climbing.
The name ‘Kolagapara’ derived from two Malayalam word ‘Kolagu’ and ‘para’, were Kolagu is the measuring tool of rice and Para is the stone, and its looks like a Kolagu made by rock.
